Essential question:

The NetGeneration expects innovation and improvement of the efficiency of organizations "they are constantly looking for innovative ways to collaborate, entertain themselves, learn, and work." How must educational organizations evolve to allow innovation using this technology to happen and improve learning?

Organizations must start using technology to improve learning. The ways that they should start doing this is by, letting us 2310914139_de76e83f14.jpgwork and learn in a comfortable environment. To improve learning in educational organizations they need to adapt to our learning needs, each and every kid learns in their own ways. Some teens do well with the classic text book way of learning but that is changing. Most teens need to see things visually weather it’s in a video or listening to a podcast on the information. Most educators complain of the "cheating"[1] factor when it comes to cell phones. We can use our resources to access the information. As long as they make a good test or even random test so not everyone is the same, would solve the problem. This is one of the smartest generations out there and we can only continue to become brilliant if the education programs adapt to what we need to succeed.

As of right now blackboards, overheads, and pounds of paper are the main ways that teachers use to get in our heads. What they don’t know is that we are a very creative group of learners; I guarantee that we would learn more by participating in a heated discussion on a controversial topic then we would on reading and re-reading a single sided report by a fifty seven year old man. By allowing creativity and allowing us to be individuals in our work we will always succeed in what we are doing.

When it comes to education, innovation is something that needs to be further developed in this area. Constantly, the world around us is growing, establishing new and improved ways to collaborate, learn, and have fun. However, in the classroom, it seems as though we are still stuck in the ways of the past, with the same old-fashioned methods of teaching and learning. Students should be encouraged to learn in the way that is best suited for themselves, as individual learners. We are a generation that loves to customize our lives to fit our own unique personality and to allow us to perform our best. Education needs to innovate to give NetGen students the chance to rethink their specific learning style; for example, visual learners should be pushed to create flashcards and other tools that work to help the development of the individual learner while auditory learners may benefit more from pod-casts. The future of education lies in the hands of our generation – if we can incorporate innovative ways of thinking into the way we learn, we have no limits.

Allowing Innovation with Mobiles


What are the primary obstacles to allowing more widespread use of mobiles in educational institutions? For each obstacle, suggest ways the obstacle can be overcome.

The primary obstacles that are not allowing the widespread use of mobiles in education system are the faculty. Most of the educators today are out of touch with our learning needs and with the new technology. As it has been stated many times through this project, the elder generations are scared of change, so they reject the idea of the new ways of learning. "When testing we need resources that take us outside of the walls of the classroom. We need to be able to get information from the outside world, but while sitting inside the classroom."[2] that this obstacle can be overcome all relies in the educators they have to open up and allow new ideas and new technologies.
I think the main obstacle is that we are afraid of, is giving the students too much freedom, that if we give them an inch they’ll take a mile. This is understandable but not completely ethical. I think that if the teachers were to stop their preconceived notions about teenagers act, I think that we would get a lot farther. Not only is it about preconceived notions, it also has to do with some of the older teachers. I know that not all teachers over the age of 48 are like this, but I've noticed a pattern that the younger teachers are more open to technology and what it has to offer. Again, though not all older teachers are old school when it comes to teaching most are. I am not saying that we should kick all the oldies out but I am saying that we need to teach them somethings.

In education, we are faced with many obstacles, reasons why we can’t allow mobile technology; however, in actuality, the advancements we have made today technology-wise are something that could be extremely beneficial to our learning. Using mobiles, we are able to communicate with people anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds, send pictures instantly, surf the web, and so much more. With all the resources at our fingertips, it doesn’t seem ethical to still be keeping mobile technology outside of the classroom. Though educators may feel that there are too many distractions with mobiles, too many resources that it is almost overwhelming, we are the Net Gen; a generation that can – and loves to – multitask, collaborate, and innovate. If we are expected to present ourselves as mature individuals, we need to be given the chance to act responsibly. Mobile technology is one of the key factors to innovation in education.

Benefits of Innovation with Mobiles

Learning no longer happens just behind a desk, students can now access any information at anytime. Teachers are using ilife and iwork applications to create customized education learning materials. Educators all over the world are learning that mobile education works. [4] The benefits of innovating with mobiles in the education program are the simple fact that it is the way we learn and retain information. Give a kid a cell phone and tell them to text message Google to find information or give them a text book, most Net Generation students will choose the technology. We learn better with the new up to date technology.
