Customized Learning with Geo Technologies

Insert examples with hyperlinks of how students can currently customize their learning experience using geo technologies.
Students can obtain a lot of advantages by using geolocation technologies. For students who study literature, geotagging and virtual geocaching can be used to show the map that is described in the story. Or they can also find real locations that are related to literature works, which could improve the understanding of those works. For example, when I was reading several plays written by William Shakespeare, Google Earth Community provided the location of actual places mentioned in those plays. Although I had never been to those places, I was able to get sense of what kind of places they are. With this information, I learned how the actual places in his works affected Shakespeare’s plays. The geolocation technology can be also helpful to students who study arts. There is a web site called Paintmap where artists place their works on a map and shows the physical location. By using this site, students can research what is difference between features of art works in different regions. Then, they would be able to understand how much the physical background of the artist can affect his/her artwork. Geolocation technology can be also useful applications for research and learning in other fields of study. By Mike S.

I was doing a project on World War One in history, and using Google Earth i was able to get a very accurate look at the former battlefields and front lines of the war. This feature made the project so much easier and instead of the project taking 3 hours it took around one and a half. Such use of programs is spreading fast throughout schools, with many of my friends using programs such as Google Earth and Google Maps to make their work of a higher standard and less tiresome to produce. I can't be sure if this is the case in other schools but it seems likely, since our generation is certainly the most computer-oriented and people are constantly looking for ways to make their work more accurate but also faster to produce. Challenges of Learning and Customization with Geo Technologies

What are the documented challenges or predicted challenges that come from customizing learning with geo technologies.
The accuracy of geo-technology over the years could become a major problem. The reasoning behind this is that geo-technology must be updated with new information and changes that occur around the world. For example if you are using Google Earth to find a highway in Madrid, or a neighborhood in the U.S. and that area of interest has been changed around, the information is inaccurate. This problem is very easily solved with a simple update of maps online yearly or even every five years or so. On the contrary, if satellite is being used to find the information, your problem is solved before it started because the satellite is an exact picture. By Emma J.
